Where`s yer auld faither ?

My dear friend, I am moved to point out that not all the band are portrayed in this marvellous picture. Drummers, to be sure, came and went and were rarely worth photographing except as to serve as warnings of the unhappy effects of cousin-marriage. 'We've had a meeting' were the words these entirely interchangeable, monosyllabically-named pseudo-musicians would first hear.

I seem to remember you were making a Jaggerish pout at the time, clearly visible in this shot. An understandable reaction. It was the poor earthing of the power supplies to stages in those years which caused, in this case, the explosion which propelled our singer upwards so spectacularly.

I was always too crap to be able to operate my keyboards and simultaneously think about what I looked like. Hence all photographs have me grimacing as if being assaulted, unseen, from below. My scandalously perpiheral status was once underlined at the Rothes Arms, Glenrothes (a LEGO-inspired dormitory community for Glasgow slum overspill) where someone asked me if I was in the band. 'Er, yes' I replied, proud, if puzzled at the question, given that he had been watching us for 40 minutes. 'Oh', said he 'I thought you were doing the lights'.

You always got more girls than me.
